War for Independence Tiyul

May 14th 1948 Israel is declared a state. Before this idea was eve made possible, there was a war. It lasted from November 30th 1947 to around October of 1948, and was comprised of two phases. Phase one took place from November 30th 1947 until May 14th 1948 and was an internal war meaning that the war took place within the borders of Israel and involved the Arabs and Jews living in the state, mostly in Jerusalem and along route 1 going from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The second phase is the external war that happened almost immediately after Israel was declared a state going from May 14th 1948 until around October of 1948 where Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, and Lebanon all attacked Israel. We’ll get back to that in a minute. During the internal war Latrun was the most wanted spot at the time because you could always see what was around you and you could prepare for the attack that would come and it was right along route 1. Also during this time Jerusalem was blocked off and hundreds of thousands of people were starving, so the  people fighting decided it would be a good idea to build a secred road to get supplies like food and other materials to Jerusalem.

They helped Israel win the war by making bullets with outdated machinery under a kibbutz. 12998618_1050219978384996_156745161449791174_n.jpg
I think the establishment of the state helped the war effort because the state could organize a real army and a state/ country army is a lot more effective than three separate organizations because everyone would be working for the same cause at the same pace.

Then at the very end of the day we went to Tel Aviv and learned about start up companies, and how Israel is ranked first in start ups. It was interesting having to run around the city for a while. To me it almost seemed like a simulator on how CEO’s of companies live their lives. Running around from place to place just to see that there wasn't a problem, then later seeing that there was then having to run around some more because you need to get the problem fixed. It’s easy to see what you can do if you just set your mind to it.

  1. My favorite task was to find the bitkoin place. It involved a map and got me new stickers. Wow, shortest answer I've ever written.

  4. My favorite task was the library when our team figured out that we needed to just send two people up instead of our whole group so that we would be allowed in, unlike the other groups.

  5. My favorite task was finding the people that spoke Russian. They were much easier to find than I thought it would be, it only took asking 4 or 5 people. It was cool to see a part of Tel Aviv that I really underestimated. This one was extra fun also because the person who translated for us was, according to Chen, on the Israeli Big Brother for transgender people. We didn't know until after, but still cool!

  6. My very talented group got to do a special task, so we did some cartwheels, and I got to do my rendition of the worm. It was quite a sight, not to mention it brought the green team with a second place victory!! Also, I just had a great time, walking around and talking to a bunch of people and learning new things about how the country came up.

  7. My favorite task was when we had to find a laptop to watch the video on. Evan took us to his wife's work where we got to meet some of her co-workers, though we couldn't use the computer because of security reasons. We ended up guessing, and we got it on the second guess. I also enjoyed the product pitch one. the Mycrowave was a beautiful idea with a very promising future.

  10. I thought this was absolutely one of the most fun tiyuls we have had. My favorite task was either finding tomatoes because we got to eat some afterwards or playing that paddle game. He said that Josh and I were the fastest pair to finish. It was very very fun!

  11. My favorite task was the one where we had to have something in Russian translated by someone on the streets. The first person we asked was able to do it, and that just goes to show how diverse Israel is.
